VI Local Organizing Committee (LOC) reviewed the progress and commitments of the Valledupar 2026 Parasuramerican Games.

The meeting in the capital of Cesar brought together national, regional and local entities involved in the organization of the Valledupar 2026 Parasuramerican Games. Advances in infrastructure, accessibility, communications, logistics, accommodation and volunteering were reviewed in order to ensure the success of the multi-sport event to be held from July 4 to 15, 2026.

With the presence of the Minister of Sport, Patricia Duque Cruz, the president of the Paralympic Committee of Colombia, José Aldiver García, the mayor of Valledupar, Ernesto Orozco Durán, the mayor of Agustín Codazzi, Hernán Baquero Rodríguez, the director of the Valledupar 2026 Parasuramerican Games, Élmer Jiménez Silva, and sports authorities of the department of Cesar, the VI Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the Valledupar 2026 Parasuramerican Games held a session. 

The head of the Ministry of Sport, Patricia Duque Cruz, highlighted the progress of the organization of the games, highlighting the effective coordination at different levels of government to ensure success in the multi-sport event that will project the city of Valledupar as a sporting and inclusive city in the Caribbean region. “A great joint effort is being made, giving the best for these Games to be the pride of the country and today we were attentive to know the progress in its organization”, said the official when installing the LOC session.

The director of the Parasuramerican Games Valledupar 2026, Élmer Jiménez Silva, presented the balance 277 days before the official start of the competition: “Once again we have the valuable opportunity to bring together the national and territorial wills that make possible the progress of our Games, as it was in this LOC session, where important commitments and agreements were established that allow us to continue with this city task, with this inclusive, social and sports project that represents us a challenge and commitment to the country and the hemisphere.”

During the committee it was reported that the 11 scenarios (9 in Valledupar and 2 in Codazzi) and the sports calendar were already approved. Similarly, it was reported that 76% of execution of the visits of international technical delegates of the program sports have already been completed and in October and November the 13 planned visits will be completed, with wheelchair basketball (October 1 to 3), Para athletics (November 17 to 19) and wheelchair tennis (20 to 22 November).  

Also presented was the schedule of intervention of sports infrastructure, in charge of the Government of Cesar, projected at 14 billion pesos, as well as the process of purchasing implementation, the preparation of accommodation and food services, in addition to the progress in the initial registration of the Volunteer program that a little over a month and is already around 1,000 applicants. Finally, the date of the meeting of mission chiefs was confirmed, an important milestone in the organization of multisport events, which in the case of Valledupar 2026, will be held from December 4 to 7 in the host city of the multisport event.

Interagency commitment 

The mayor of Valledupar, Ernesto Orozco Durán, stressed that the Games in Valledupar represent a great opportunity to consolidate the capital of Cesar as a city of events, underpinning in this case Paralympic sport, which corresponds to the mission to “consolidate it as a benchmark for inclusive sports tourism in the country.”.

Similarly, the president of the Colombian Paralympic Committee, Jose Aldiver Garcia, said he was reassured by the strategic alliance built between the Ministry of Sport, Government of Cesar, the mayors of Valledupar and Agustin Codazzi, Paralympic Committee of the Americas (AmPC) and its entity the Colombian Paralympic Committee (CPC): “We have strengthened a process of these Parasuramerican Games that represent the construction of social fabric, in both the capabilities and sporting talent of those who strive to the maximum for their countries, demonstrating tenacity, resilience and perseverance. In Valledupar the legend does not stop and for that we work, to make a great event that projects this city to Colombia and the world.”

The Valledupar 2026 Parasuramerican Games will be held from July 4 to 15 with the participation of 1,120 Para athletes from 12 countries, who will compete for 485 medals in 13 sports. Valledupar will be the main venue with 11 Paralympic sports, while the Agustín Codazzi sub-venue will host the Paracycling and Football for the Blind competitions. 

With this sixth committee, the organizational process enters its decisive stage, ensuring that the Valledupar 2026 Parasuramerican Games will become a sporting, cultural and social legacy for Cesar, the Caribbean region and Colombia.
