En 2022 Valledupar fue sede de los Juegos Bolivarianos, un evento deportivo de gran importancia que permitió a la ciudad mostrar su capacidad para organizar y recibir a atletas y visitantes de catorce países del continente. Además, la ciudad ha consolidado una infraestructura deportiva de alto nivel, fruto de su experiencia como sede y del legado de los Juegos Bolivarianos. Del 4 al 16 de julio de 2026 Valledupar albergará el evento del deporte paralímpico más importante de la historia de Colombia, un compromiso de país que todos los habitantes de esta ciudad han asumido para vivir la fiesta multideportiva y recibir a los Para atletas de 12 países que participarán en el evento donde ´La Leyenda no se detiene´.
