Beautiful Codazzi, a magical land of guitars and cotton

Agustín Codazzi is a municipality in the department of Cesar, located in the northern part of the country at the foothills of the Serranía del Perijá. Known for its agricultural and livestock traditions, it stands out as one of the leading coffee producers in the Caribbean region and for crops such as African oil palm, sugarcane, cassava, and fruit trees, in addition to its significant cattle industry. Known as the “White City” due to its former cotton boom, today it is diversifying its economy through agribusiness and clean energy projects. Its population is around 70,000, and it maintains cultural traditions such as the Vallenato Music Festival on Guitar, a national cultural heritage event and one of the most important in the country. Surrounded by rivers, mountains, and natural landscapes, Codazzi is a region rich in productive and cultural resources that drives sustainable development in Cesar.

In the realm of sports, Agustín Codazzi will host its second major multisport event, which will help boost its development as an emerging city in the Caribbean. In 2022, it served as a co-host city for the Valledupar 2022 Bolivarian Games, hosting the rugby events of that competition. Years later, thanks to the strategic vision of the municipal authority, Hernán Baquero Rodríguez, Codazzi has hosted national events, tournaments, and competitions, in addition to serving as the official home of professional women’s soccer, with the Faríd Díaz Renhals Stadium serving as the home of Alianza Agustín Codazzi, which competes in the Liga Betplay Dimayor.

In July 2026, Agustín Codazzi will once again make its mark on the continent, this time as a sub-host city for the II Parasur American Games in the history of Paralympic sport. The Paracycling events—Road Race and Individual Time Trial—will take place on the “La Palizada” departmental highway, while the Parasuramerican Synthetic Field at the Sports Village will host the excitement of soccer for the blind, featuring three of the world’s top four teams (Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia).
