Valledupar, July 12, 2026. With a focus on organizational excellence, inclusion and social legacy, the II Coordination Meeting (CoCom) of the 2026 Parasuramerican Games was held in Valledupar from July 10 to 12, 2025, with the presence of representatives of the Americas Paralympic Committee (AmPC), together with the local management and operational team of the multisport event.

During three days, the different functional areas of the Local Organizing Committee presented progress, challenges and projections for the sporting events that will bring together in 2026 about 1,200 athletes from 12 countries in South America.

“In 2026 we are going to show the continent that Valledupar and Colombia can host high-level events. Together we are building a legacy that transcends sport and promotes social inclusion,” said Michele Formonte, executive director of AmPC.

For his part, Elmer Jimenez Silva, director of the Valledupar 2026 Parasuramerican Games, highlighted the support received. “We were reassured and satisfied with the look of the Americas Paralympic Committee. This motivates us even more to continue working and to have in July 2026 a city, a sub-venue, venues and services completely ready.”

The working session was attended by the General and Operational Directorates of the Games, as well as the Services, Communications, Logistics, Sports Technical, Education and Legacy sub-directorates, who detailed the main actions implemented during 2025 and shared the roadmap for the final planning phase.

On July 11, the AmPC commission visited the main sports venues, including the Paracycling route and the blind soccer arena in the municipality of Agustín Codazzi, official sub-venue of the Games, as well as other sports venues in Valledupar. The inspections allowed to verify the progress in terms of accessibility, logistical adaptations and spaces for athletes, judges, media and community.

“We started with the route designed for Paracycling and it is a very nice scenario. These spaces also allow us to do actions with the community, and that is part of the legacy that the Games leave: to change the perception about people with disabilities, focusing on their potential,” said Carla da Mata, AmPC’s Regional Games manager.

“It’s a great place for us to do actions with the community.

In the framework of the meeting, the AmPC delivered its balance of the visit, highlighting the consolidation of the local team, the technical progress and the shared vision between both parties to achieve a successful Games. In that sense, its maximum leader highlighted what has been built so far in the organization of Valledupar 2026. “During this second coordination meeting we witnessed important advances. The team is more consolidated, the venues are taking shape and the overall balance has been positive,” said Julio César Ávila, president of the Americas Paralympic Committee.

The meeting also addressed key issues such as the estimated schedule by sport, communication strategies, accessibility, hosting, volunteering, media plan, implementation of uniforms, and projections of the social legacy that the Games will leave in the region and the continent.

With this meeting in articulation with the Paralympic Committee of the Americas, the Valledupar 2026 Parasuramerican Games continue consolidating their path towards the realization of an event that will not only mark a sporting milestone, but will also positively impact the communities, through inclusion, visibility and social transformation.
