V LOC highlights progress in the organization of the Parasuramerican Games Valledupar 2026

With the participation of the Minister of Sport, Patricia Duque Cruz, the president of the Colombian Paralympic Committee, José Aldíver García and the director of the Valledupar 2026 Parasuramerican Games, Elmer Jiménez Silva, the V Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the games met in this city to review the progress of the organization of the only multi-sport event that Colombia will have in the cycle, on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

At the meeting, commitments generated in 2024 were reviewed, in response to the requests made during the planning phase of the event. The head of Mindeporte highlighted the progress of the games, noting that the capital of Cesar has a great opportunity to continue to show its organizational capacity for major multi-sport events, especially in the field of Paralympic sport as manifested in this opportunity with the Parasuramericanos.

“In this fifth Local Organizing Committee, we continue articulating in the planning process, it is important to value the great infrastructure that the municipality of Valledupar has and we hope to advance in the budgetary aspect so that these games mark the history in the national territory. In the Ministry you will always find support so that, together we move forward in the organization of this event that will be historic for the promotion and development of Paralympic sport in the country, “said Minister Duque, who announced the investment of 5,250 million pesos by the national government for the development of the games.

Multi-sport event takes more shape

The director of Parasuramericanos Valledupar 2026, presented the work done, specifying actions developed by each operational sub-directorate of the organization, which included the review of the intention of participation of the twelve countries, according to the approved sports program, as well as the detail of the investment for the adequacy of the sports venues of Valledupar in which the different championships will take place, which will exceed 15 billion pesos to be executed in the following months.

In his summary, Elmer Jimenez, also presented the report of the technical visit made to Agustin Codazzi, municipality proposed as a sub-venue for two of the thirteen sports that will be in action such as soccer for the blind and Paracycling, which, in its route would have the passage through the national road of this jurisdiction.

For his part, the president of the Colombian Paralympic Committee, José Aldíver García, took advantage of the meeting to indicate what in his opinion ‘represents a great opportunity for the city’.
