Valledupar 2026 will award 468 gold medals in 13 sports of the Parasuramerican sports program

Valledupar, September 10, 2026. From July 5 to 16, 2026, Valledupar and the Agustín Codazzi sub-site will experience the biggest Paralympic sports festival in the continent. With 13 disciplines in competition, the capital of Cesar and the sub-site will have the dispute 468 gold medals in a competition that will bring together 1,120 Para athletes from 12 countries, which officially opens the cycle towards the Paralympic Games Los Angeles 2028.

For swimming the sport with the most gold metals

The sport with the most gold medals in Valledupar 2026 will be Para swimming, with 191 medals to be awarded in the pool of the Aquatic Complex of the Popular University of Cesar, between July 11 and 15. This scenario, the only one in Colombia with indoor, will receive the top continental figures from 11 countries that will seek marks, records and classifications in the framework of the Paralympic cycle of Los Angeles 2028. 

For athletics, speed and endurance in The Cold Drop

For track and field, the second sport with the second largest number of gold medals to be awarded, 154 medals will be up for grabs from July 12 to 15 at the Mondo athletic track (class 2) and field of the José Luis Parada stadium, located at the La Gota Fría High Performance Sports Unit. There, in this comfortable, accessible and modern infrastructure, the track and field events will be held in a scenario certified by the International Federations of the sport, with the participation of the 12 countries that will participate in the games.  

Next in the order of gold medals in dispute is table tennis, a sport of agility, concentration and reaction that will be disputed in the majestic Cultural Center of Vallenata Music (CCMV) from July 4 to 7 and will award 37 gold medals to the best exponents of the hemisphere. 

In the same sports calendar, the Para powerlifting, from July 3 to 6 at the Gymnastics Coliseum of the Universidad Popular del Cesar, will define 23 gold medals for the exponents of strength in the II hemispheric Paralympic sport competitions. 

In the Agustín Codazzi sub-site, the Paracycling in its route modality, will be developed from July 2 to 4 by the departmental road ‘La Palizada’, leaving at stake 16 gold medals. In turn, the Para badminton, scheduled to be held from July 11 to 15 at the Gota Fria Basketball Coliseum, will award 15 gold medals, while the Para archery, with a stage scheduled to be held at the Armando Maestre Pavajeau stadium, will award 14 gold medals between July 13 and 15. 

For its part, two other sports that make up the Parasuramerican sports program of Valledupar 2026 as boccia and wheelchair tennis will also crown the best in the region. In that sense, the UPC Gymnastics Coliseum will host boccia, with 11 gold medals in dispute from July 10 to 15, and in the Valledupar Tennis Complex, wheelchair tennis, scheduled to be played from July 12 to 15, days in which 6 gold medals will be defined. 

Oros in ensemble sports

Group sports will also shine in Valledupar 2026, with both men’s and women’s participation. Wheelchair basketball, which will be played from July 3 to 7 at the La Gota Fria Basketball Coliseum and sitting volleyball, from July 4 to 8 at the Julio Monsalvo Castilla Coliseum, will distribute two gold medals each, as well as goalball, which will be staged from July 4 to 8 at the Oscar Muñoz Combat Coliseum. 

Finally, soccer for the blind, which will take place in the Agustin Codazzi sub-site between July 9 and 15 at the Parasuramerican Field of the Sports Village, will have only one gold medal in dispute, as it will be played in the men’s division with the participation of six national teams, among them Argentina, Brazil and Colombia, teams that will be present in the multisport events and that achieved an outstanding performance in the Paralympic Games of Paris 2024, finishing with silver, bronze and fourth place medals respectively. 

The Valledupar 2026 Parasuramerican Games not only represent the opening of the cycle towards Los Angeles 2028, but also consolidate a sporting, cultural and social legacy for the capital of Cesar and the Caribbean region. With 468 gold medals at stake, the event promises to be a scenario of inclusion, resilience and sporting excellence for the south of the continent.
