From July 12 to 15, the Racquet Complex in the capital of Cesar will host Paralympic experience referents, Parapan American champions and outstanding emerging figures of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour circuit, in a competition that will award six titles and will have the dispute for all the medals in a final and decisive day.

Valledupar, May 19, 2026. The wheelchair tennis of the II Parasuramerican Games projects one of the highest international level competitions of the multi-sport event, thanks to the confirmed presence of consolidated referents and new figures of South American wheelchair tennis, among them athletes with Paralympic experience, participation in Grand Slam tournaments and continental medalists. 

At Valledupar 2026, wheelchair tennis will put six titles Parasuramericanos at stake in the modalities of men’s Open singles, women’s Open singles, men’s Quad singles, men’s Open doubles, women’s Open doubles and men’s Quad doubles. All the finals will be played on July 15, a decisive day that will concentrate the emotion and the definition of the medals of this discipline within the Parasuramerican Games.

For Valledupar 2026 there will be the Open category, which will bring together athletes with functional loss in one or both lower limbs, but with sufficient mobility, coordination and strength in the upper limbs to move and execute the blows during the game.

Also, the Racquet Complex will host the competitions of the Quad category, intended for athletes with functional impairment in three or four limbs, generally associated with quadriplegia or similar conditions.

Paralympic experience and emerging figures

Among the confirmed athletes are Paralympic athletes, continental medalists and active players on the ITF circuit.

Argentina will count in the category Open with Ezequiel Casco, gold medalist in men’s doubles in Santiago 2023 and participant in Paris 2024. Chile will arrive with Alexander Cataldo, historical reference of wheelchair tennis austral and habitual competitor in tournaments Grand Slam in the Open category.  Also stand out names like Macarena Cabrillana, from Chile, participant in Roland GarrosWimbledon and Australian Open; Gustavo Carneiro Silva, from Brazil, with presence in Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024; and his compatriots Luiz Calixto and Vitória Miranda, considered two of the continent’s top promising juniors, after their recent titles in Junior Parapan American Games and Grand Slam junior tournaments.  

In the category Quad, the expectation will also be high with the presence of Chileans Diego Perez and Francisco Cayulef, world champions of the modality in Turkey 2024 and protagonists of the international circuit.

In the Colombian representation will be Paula Michelle Lopez and Zuleiny Rodriguez. Lopez arrives after outstanding performances in the Parapan American Junior Games of Bogota 2023 and Santiago 2025, consolidating herself as one of the main youth promises of the region after qualifying to the junior draw of Roland Garros 2026 and currently ranked fourth in the ITF Junior Girls ranking. For her part, Rodriguez will bring Paralympic experience after competing at Paris 2024 and remaining active on the international ITF circuit. 

The 40 athletes qualified for the wheelchair tennis competitions of Valledupar 2026 obtained quota through the mechanisms established in the official classification system. Most of them secured their presence based on their position in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) world ranking, built based on their accumulated performance in official tournaments of the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour circuit, considered one of the main competitive stages of wheelchair tennis internationally. 

Aditionally, some quotas were assigned through bipartite invitations, a mechanism contemplated within the classification system and defined under criteria aimed at strengthening regional representation, expanding opportunities for participation and contributing to the development and massification of wheelchair tennis in South America and the Americas. Thanks to this model, Valledupar 2026 will bring together some of the best exponents of this discipline, raising the technical and competitive level of the Games.

The city is preparing for a high level 

To meet the demanding standards of Paralympic sport, the wheelchair tennis stage of Valledupar 2026 is currently being intervened by the Governorate of Cesar, an entity that makes an investment of more than two billion pesos in the Racquet Complex to strengthen the conditions of accessibility, logistics and technical operation in preparation for the Games. It is noteworthy that this scenario hosted tennis (conventional) during the Bolivarian Games Valledupar 2022 and has also received youth tournaments G1 of the South American Confederation of Tennis (COSAT), as well as international events J30 endorsed by the International Tennis Federation. 

With renovated infrastructure, international standards and the presence of consolidated athletes along with new figures of continental wheelchair tennis, Valledupar 2026 is preparing to offer a high-level sports competition that will strengthen the growth of this discipline in the region and consolidate the legacy of the Parasuramerican Games for South American Paralympic sport.
