AmPC representatives arrived in the host city to evaluate infrastructure, accessibility and accommodation service providers that will host the 1,120 Para athletes during the Games to be held from July 5 to 16, 2026. The review leaves a positive balance and marks the beginning of a new operational phase in the organization of the multi-sport games.

Valledupar, October 3, 2025. With the characteristic warmth of the capital of Cesar, the city received the delegation of the Americas Paralympic Committee (AmPC) for a series of official technical visits of the Parasuramerican Games Valledupar 2026, the multi-sport event that opens the Paralympic cycle of Los Angeles 2028 and that marks a historic milestone in the Colombian Caribbean region. For four days, the technical team of the Americas Paralympic Committee, together with the organization of the event, inspected the sports venues and the hotel network of the city, in order to ensure standards of accessibility, safety and welfare for athletes and other members of the delegations of the 12 participating countries.

The first phase of the visit focused on the sports venues of the main venue, where circulation flows, technical areas, competition areas and universal accessibility were reviewed. This verification will allow to implement the necessary adjustments in the coming months, ensuring optimal conditions for the competition.

“We are doing tours of some venues that were pending. The idea is not only to look at the flow of athletes, technical officials and the Parapan American family, but also the accessibility. That’s why we are here with a specialized consultant to check the spaces and detect opportunities for improvement. That is the purpose of these technical visits,” explained Carla Da Matta, AmPC regional events manager, highlighting the progress and professionalism of the Colombian organizing team.

The AmPC representative also stressed that these days strengthen local preparation and leave a valuable legacy in terms of management of inclusive sporting events: “We are leaving in Colombia professionals trained and committed to Paralympic sport, which is a great technical and human legacy for the country,”she added.

Hotels and operational coordination of the jousting

Another key point was the evaluation of the hotels that will house the international delegations. The AmPC team visited 20 hotel establishments in the city to verify accessibility, room availability, total capacity and conditions of the common areas.

Another key point was the evaluation of the hotels that will host the international delegations.

“These visits have the objective of knowing the technical details required to receive the Para-athletes and delegations. We have reviewed rooms, bathrooms, ramps and common areas; in addition, we had the opportunity to dialogue with the managers of each hotel to ensure the necessary adjustments. We closed a first block with nine hotels visited and we move forward with great expectations in the following tours,” said Carolina Villegas, AmPC Membership Coordinator.

For her part, Patricia Squella, accessibility advisor of the governing body of Paralympic sport in the continent, stressed that this element is one of the fundamental pillars for better care and experience of the participants:

“We reviewed every detail with an inclusive look, ensuring that the accommodation spaces are comfortable, safe and adapted to the needs of all athletes. The most valuable thing is the willingness of the Organizing Committee and the city to work on the necessary adaptations,” said Squella.

The representatives of the AmPC agreed in emphasizing that Valledupar advances firmly in the preparation of the competition and that the organization of the Games shows an articulated work, committed and in constant growth.

With this technical visit, Valledupar reaffirms its role as hemispheric venue for Paralympic sport, consolidating its preparation to receive the Parasuramerican Games 2026, an event that will be an example of inclusion, organization and social legacy for the department of Cesar, the Caribbean region and for Colombia.
