The countdown to the II Parasuramerican Games in history continues, and Chile knows it. The southern country confirmed its first representatives in two key disciplines: table tennis and powerlifting, consolidating a delegation that combines international experience, leadership in the world ranking and historical presence in the Paralympic movement.

In table tennis, eleven athletes secured their place after the first competition of the year in Chile, in a day that brought together more than 50 players and defined the selected players who will compete between July 5 and 16 in Valledupar 2026.

Within the team stand out Ignacio Torres, who closed 2025 as number one in the world ranking, after conquering seven ITTF World tournaments in class 6, and Florencia Perez, bronze medalist at the Paralympic Games in Paris 2024, achievement that marked a milestone by becoming the first Paralympic medal in the history of Chilean Para table tennis. Perez, who competes in class 8, finished the year in third place in the world ranking, ratifying his validity in the international elite.

The class system for table tennis groups athletes according to their physical functionality -classes 1 to 5 in wheelchairs, 6 to 10 standing and 11 for intellectual disabilities- guaranteeing competitive equity. In this context, Chile will also have Tamara Leonelli (class 5), Luis Flores (class 2), Manuel Echaveguren (class 10), Claudio Bahamondes (class 7) and Lissette Salinas (class 6), among other names that strengthen the structure of the national team.

In parallel, Chilean para powerlifting confirmed fifteen representatives after the World Para Powerlifting (WPPO) validated the official South American classification ranking. The criterion was clear: to place within the top four places per weight category and branch on the established dates.

The qualifiers include Diego Silva (up to 54 kg); Juan Carlos Garrido and Javier Jimenez (up to 59 kg); Jorge Carinao (up to 65 kg); Jonathan Astudillo and Matias Reveco (up to 80 kg); Byron Bustos (up to 88 kg); Frank Feliu (up to 97 kg); and Matias Recabal (up to 107 kg). In the women’s division, Camila Campos (up to 55 kg); Nayadet Garcés (up to 61 kg); Julie Grille (up to 67 kg); Aracely Quiroz (up to 73 kg); María Antonieta Ortíz (up to 79 kg); and Marion Serrano (up to 86 kg) will compete.

It is highlighted that within the Chilean contingent, in Para powerlifting is Juan Carlos Garrido, gold medalist of the I Parasuramerican Games Santiago 2014, performance and title that he will try to revalidate in Valledupar 2026, which would be the second Parasuramerican of his successful sports career.

Paralympic powerlifting demands maximum power, refined technique and absolute control in every attempt. The breadth of categories reflects the depth of the Chilean team and its consolidation in the South American arena.
