UCI gives green light to the Paracycling course in the Parasuramerican Games Valledupar 2026

The inspections of the International Technical Delegates (ITDs) of the Parasuramerican Games Valledupar 2026, began successfully, after the first visit to Agustín Codazzi by the commissioner representing the International Cycling Union (UCI), Iverson Ladewig, who endorsed the route proposed by the Organizing Committee for the Paracycling competition of the Games.

Along with the different areas of the organization, the recognized expert of Brazilian nationality completely toured the circuit, which he described as optimal for the development of the different races of Paracycling that will be disputed in the modalities of Route and Individual Time Trial (CRI).

“In general lines everything is very well, from my part the stage is ideal, reason why we can consider that the key course of Paracycling will be here in Agustín Codazzi. In relation to the technical and service areas, some modifications must be made to the original plan to contemplate the doping control room and the functional classification room, but in general everything is very well,” said the international commissioner, who was accompanied by the technical delegates of the Colombian Cycling Federation, Humberto Fonseca and Jaime Silva.

With extensive experience in Paracycling, Iverson Ladewig has been technical delegate in high-level competitions such as the Paracycling World Cup in Belgium, in addition to exercising this role in the Parapan American Games in Santiago de Chile in 2023 and the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro 2007. His career also includes technical accompaniment in multiple competitions in his native Brazil, where he has ensured compliance with the standards required by the International Cycling Union in each race.

Free and safe road in Codazzi

The stretch to be traveled in the Parasuramerican Games was established on the road known as ‘La Palizada’, an alternate departmental road that connects the municipality of Agustin Codazzi with the capital, Valledupar, connecting through the village of Aguas Blancas in a stretch of 38 kilometers, of which only 9.8 km will be used for the development of Paracycling in the modality of circuit and in the defined distances, from the different functional classifications of the Para athletes, being this sport one of the most showy and competitive of the programming of the Games.

“We are making progress in complying with the technical protocols established for this type of multisport competition of the Paralympic Cycle, based on the international certification of experts representing the different international federations. It is a work that we do with the highest level to guarantee excellent Games, demonstrating that the municipalities of Agustin Codazzi and Valledupar as venue are prepared to meet the continent, with the best scenarios, in addition to optimal logistical conditions and services to athletes and visitors,” said Elmer Jimenez Silva, director of the Parasuramerican Games Valledupar 2026.

The Parasuramerican sports program contemplates the dispute of the Paracycling medals from July 12 to 15, 2026, dates on which the best of the continent will face each other, demonstrating strength, technique, strategy and sportsmanship in the demanding circuit of Agustin Codazzi.
